Card ReviewThe Chase Platinum MasterCard« for Students, issued by Chase, is designed for those with very good credit who plan to take advantage of the optional reward program. Through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Express program, cardholders earn one point for every dollar spent on general purchases that may be redeemed for merchandise and dining related services. The maximum number of points that may be earned in a billing period must not exceed the cardholder's credit limit and any unused points expire in three years. Aside from the reward program, the card offers up to $500,000 in travel accident insurance, auto rental insurance, and various discounts at participating merchants and retailers. The card has a 0% introductory rate that is available for the first six months for purchases and balance transfers. In addition, there is no annual fee and the interest rate for purchases and balance transfers is reasonable for a student card (although not ideal for those who carry a balance). It is important to note that there is a minimum cap of 19.99% for cash advances, so no matter how low the Prime Rate falls (the APR is tied to the Prime Rate), the interest rate will not go below the minimum cap. Therefore, those who plan to pay in full each month after the introductory rate expires (to avoid costly finance charges) and will take advantage of the reward program, will benefit most from what the Chase Platinum MasterCard« for Students has to offer.
